As per the Census 2011 out of total population of Jammu and Kashmir, 27,38% people lived in urban regions while 72,62% in rural areas. The total figure of population of urban population was 3 433 242 out of which 1 866 185 were males while remaining 1 567 057 were females. In rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, male population was 4 774 477 while female population was 4 333 583.
